How many runs does a cricket team normally score if the ball flies over the edge of the field after a hit without first making contact with the ground?
Correct!
If a ball hit by the batsman flies directly over the boundary without first touching the ground within the field of play, it is usually scored as a "six" in cricket and the team scores six runs. On the other hand, if the ball touches the ground beforehand and then reaches the boundary, there are usually four runs. This is regulated in Law 19 of the Laws of Cricket. A “six” is therefore one of the most spectacular actions in cricket and is roughly the cricket equivalent of a particularly successful long shot.
A cricket ball hit directly over the boundary usually counts as a six and scores six runs.
