Cars and mobility - Vehicles and brands - Production-car speed records
What is currently the world's fastest production car?
Correct!
The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme is regarded as the world's fastest production car by measured top speed. On September 14, 2025, the electric hypercar reached 496.22 km/h, or about 308 mph, at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track in Germany. It surpassed the previous 490.484 km/h record of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+. The U9 Xtreme comes from YANGWANG, the luxury brand of Chinese manufacturer BYD, has four electric motors producing more than 3,000 horsepower combined, and is limited to 30 units. Speed records can differ depending on the rules; this question concerns the measured top-speed record for a production car.
