Why do bats hang upside down?
Correct!
For many bats, hanging upside down is a practical resting position. Their feet and tendons are adapted so that they can hold on to branches without constantly using a lot of muscle strength. The posture also helps with takeoff: bats can drop, spread their wings and use gravity. Their anatomy is highly specialized for flying, which is why standing upright is less favorable. High-lying sleeping places can provide additional protection from predators. Not all bat species hang upside down in exactly the same way.
Energy-saving holding and an easier flight start are important advantages of this position.
