How long are dogs pregnant?
Correct!
A female dog’s pregnancy lasts about 63 days, or nine weeks, on average. The Merck Veterinary Manual gives a typical period of about 62 to 64 days when counted from ovulation.
The due date cannot always be calculated precisely from the mating date because sperm can survive for several days and ovulation may occur at a different time. VCA gives about 57 to 65 days for a normal canine pregnancy. Puppies grow especially quickly during the final weeks, and the mother’s energy needs rise considerably.
