Astronomy and spaceflight - Solar system - Europa ocean - Jupiter’s moons
What is probably beneath the ice shell of Jupiter’s moon Europa?
Correct!
A vast global ocean of liquid salt water probably lies beneath the icy surface of Jupiter’s moon Europa. Measurements and observations from several spacecraft have provided strong evidence for decades. NASA estimates that Europa’s ocean could contain more than twice as much water as all of Earth’s oceans combined. Tidal forces from Jupiter likely help keep the water liquid by repeatedly flexing and warming Europa’s interior. No life has been detected there.
