Animals - Cats - Cat hunting behavior
Why do cats sometimes bring dead animals home?
Correct!
Cats are natural hunters. Even well-fed domestic cats may chase and catch mice, birds, and other small animals because hunting is not driven only by hunger.
Many cats regard their home as a safe core territory. They can carry prey there to a protected place where other animals are less likely to take it. The idea that a cat is giving a dead mouse as a gift or teaching its human to hunt is therefore an overly human interpretation. Toys that imitate prey can partly satisfy this natural hunting need.
