Animals - Cats - Cats and water
Why do many cats dislike water?
Correct!
Not every cat avoids water; some play with it or enter it voluntarily. For many domestic cats, however, becoming thoroughly wet is uncomfortable. Their coat can absorb water and become heavier, reducing freedom of movement and the ability to react quickly.
Dry fur insulates by trapping air. When soaked, that insulation can become less effective and the cat may get cold more quickly. Many cats are also sensitive to unfamiliar situations and loss of control. A bathtub, running water, or being held during bathing can therefore add stress, while an earlier unpleasant experience can strengthen the aversion. The statement that cats hate water is still too broad: individuals and breeds differ, and some cats genuinely enjoy water.
