What is lactose intolerance?
Correct!
With lactose intolerance, the small intestine cannot make enough of the enzyme lactase to fully break down the lactose that is consumed. Undigested lactose therefore reaches the colon, where bacteria break it down. This can cause symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Lactose intolerance is not a milk allergy, because in an allergy the immune system reacts to milk proteins.
In lactose intolerance, milk sugar is not fully digested because lactase activity is too low.
