What are trans fats?
Correct!
Trans fats, also called trans fatty acids, are a form of unsaturated fatty acid. They can occur naturally in meat and dairy products from ruminant animals or be produced industrially, especially during the partial hydrogenation of oils. High intake of trans fats increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. The WHO therefore recommends that less than 1% of daily energy intake should come from trans fats.
Trans fats are not a separate food group, but a particular structural form of fatty acids.
