Unsaturated fatty acids have one or more double bonds in their carbon chain. They are divided into monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. They occur in foods such as nuts, avocados, fish, and plant oils including olive, sunflower, and canola oil. The WHO recommends replacing saturated and trans fats with unsaturated fats whenever possible.
Unsaturated fatty acids can contain one or more double bonds.
